Painting and Printmaking

42 Lansdowne Drive, E8 3EG

This Art trail I am showing a series of unashamedly flamboyant flower still lives, made with soft pastel on paper, as well as some oil paintings . By working directly from observation of colourful flowers, on a large scale with bold mark making, this traditionally delicate subject is given a vigorous, more contemporary feel, while also remaining timeless. I often arrange my flowers  in front of an antique mirror which I bought from a junk shop in Hackney, which is said to have once been in the house of the great 19th C pioneer Romantic French painter Theodore Gericault. This mirror therefore makes me feel connected to this incredible artist and to the whole of Art History. The pastel drawings and oil still lives represent a meeting of nature and culture.
