This art trail I am showing a series of paintings based on east London nail salons. I am interested in people and their environments; the places where we gather and interact. During this adornment ritual, people sometimes chat, but at other times remain disconnected, sometimes by language or by drifting off into their own worlds. This repetitive painting is a skillful, creative act performed multiple times, so that it can become almost automatic. These moments where private and public meet are interesting to me, and I am inspired by artists such as 19th C French Eduard Manet and contemporary Caroline Walker who tackle similar themes in their paintings.
There will be other figurative paintings on display and I will also have a selection of framed flower pastels, paintings and local landscapes available. Lino prints, digital prints and cards will also be for sale.
