In Jonathan Bennett’s artwork the human body is reduced to simplified, often comic forms. A cast of reoccurring characters present absurdist melodramas and baffling rituals. His choice of titles echo the allegorical tradition in European painting, while subverting its pomposity. These artworks do not offer fixed meaning, but rather a charged space in which the unconscious can surface.
Jonathan has exhibited nationally and earlier this year he had a solo show at Biddle Bros’ in Hackney.
