We are thrilled that the new owners of this beautiful but battered 17th century mansion are lending us some space for a group show, as part of the June Trail. 14 artists will be occupying different rooms in the house, showing a range of work, including painting, prints, photography, jewellery and ceramics. It will also be an amazing opportunity to take a look inside one of Hackney’s most interesting historic buildings, before a major renovation gets underway later this year.
2d drawing / painting / printmaking
Taking photos as source material I make drawings. prints and paintings. In Crossing:Hackney 365 I took the same photo every day for a year. The photos became a slide show and produced a series of drawings ,lithographs and paintings of the same site in Hackney. Since then I have worked on a project: Edgelands, exploring the meeting of sea and land along the Thames and Essex coast. Where the natural meets the industrial, human intervention in the wild.
Current projects include an exploration of Death Masks, documenting 30 yrs since the Greenham Common Women’s protests and a constant fascination with landscape. I produced stone lithographs during a residency at Lemonade Press in Bristol.
Painting / printmaking
Georgia works primarily with cyanotype alongside photography, painting and mixed media. Using photography as a starting point, she explores landscape, water, light, memory and our relationship with place. Through exposure, natural toning, layering and hand-worked interventions, she transforms photographic imagery into tactile, atmospheric works that move between photography and printmaking. Her work has been collected & exhibited internationally for several years. This year she had her first solo exhibition Out of the Blue at Jealous Gallery, London.
